Other local men!
men2men at a glance!
men2men is a new Hywel Dda Health Board seed funded unique service for men, led by men.
We engage men around Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigionshire to set up small, activity groups to draw in local men.
Such shared activities can be fun and enable men to connect with others, generating a sense of belonging, fellowship and a space in which they may feel comfortable to talk about how they really are.
We help group leaders plan their activity group and provide direct support in starting and running them. Some of these men are volunteering significant time and really are community champions.
We also engage and support volunteers around our area to buddy other isolated men. This contact for men, particularly those more isolated during the lockdown has proved to be crucial.
men2men train men to lead support groups. These weekly men's groups offer much needed, simple, permissive spaces in which men can share how they are really feeling. The feedback we are getting from men has been very moving as they experience other men openly talking about themselves.
Men who are particularly distressed by loss are supported through more focussed grief and loss groups.
Finally, we are seeking locations where we can support the creation of Men's Sheds! Our first CardiShed, which is going to be an extraordinarily well resourced shed, is just about to open in Cardigan! Read more about it here!! All happened in 2 months!
During the lockdown and with Public Health Wales guidance men2men are finding ways to meet and engage men safely,
but directly in 1:1 and small group activities to minimise
the impact of isolation!
When one man, hears another man, talking about something sensitive, or even taboo, it's powerful and permissive, inviting other men to share!!
men2men will create new group activities in which men can meet and interact with other men in West Wales.
These shared activities will help men talk about themselves and move beyond the false and limiting notions of what it means to be a man, or a lad, or a bloke.
Or what it is or isn't OK to talk about!
